24 HOURS OF SAND

Working with Ellie Shipman & WE THE CURIOUS in Bristol

~ Can you imagine a world without sand? ~

The first time working alongside the wonderous Ellie Shipman, to make a wall of spin-able hourglasses to teach a little about the importance, uses and journey of sand. More information about the concept can be found on Ellie’s site here.

Fitting ever-so-slightly different hand blown hourglasses into boxes that could rotate and protect the glass was the kind of head scratcher I like. There’s a bit of finesse with some locating magnets to keep the hourglasses vertical & horizontal hidden in each piece too.

It was a quick turn around to make something stylish, bombproof and fun for the museum. CAD designed patterns and CNC milled parts made this possible with the short deadline, but there’s always hand finishing, sanding and varnish to whittle away the hours.

It’s on permanent exhibition, so go and have a play. Link to the project at We The Curious here.
